Importance of Advancement
In order to receive new or transferred species licences and/or enterprises,
the Department of Fisheries and Oceans requires a fish harvester to hold
a professional fish harvester Level II certification.
By moving from apprentice to Level I a harvester no longer has to be sponsored
to the industry by an owner / operator / skipper.
Additionally, as in any professional occupation, receiving advanced professional
status can provide professional fish harvesters with an increased sense
of pride, achievement, and security, as well as increased opportunity
within the industry.
