Composition of the Board

The Board consists of 15 members, appointed by the Newfoundland and Labrador Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture on the recommendation of fish harvester associations and other agencies. Board members are appointed for three-year terms and are eligible for reappointment. The Board members consist of:
  • seven representatives of the organization that has been recognized by the Labour Relations Board as representing fish harvesters in collective bargaining;
  • one representative from the Association of Newfoundland and Labrador Fisheries Co-operatives;
  • one representative of the Department of Fisheries and Aqualculture;
  • one representative of the Department of Education;
  • two representative of the Department of Fisheries and Oceans (Canada);
  • one representative of the Human Resources Development (Canada);
  • one representative of a post-secondary education training institution;
  • one representative-at-large chosen by the Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture.
Members are chosen in a manner which ensures that all areas of the province and the different fleet sectors are represented on the Board.
